What defines a digital resource? There are four key features we look for, and they are:

  • Text
  • Graphics
  • Audio
  • Video

We can interact with all of these.

Why do we need to create a digital resource? In what situation will I need to make one?

I’ll simply answer…
For education. For teaching. For training. For learning. For everyone. For FUN! Basically, for education, teaching, training, and learning for everyone.

This blog will be a simple introduction to some good resource sites and applications that can be used as multimedia platforms, and assist with creating digital resources.

To source something from Pixabay,

If you handle any type of image or photograph without copyright, check that it is royalty free or credit the source. Even better, take the image or photography yourself.

Another way is to:

  1. Google
  2. Usage rights
  3. Labeled for non-commercial reuse (for education)
  4. Still find it on the original website and source it

Making Multimedia in Education

  • Put time into MAKING it, not how to do it
  • Produce resources in nice simple ways to be able to share it on ALL devices – it is possible!
  • Be sure to remember that 10% of students don’t have internet connection. Therefore as a solution, have it in a format that can be accessed locally by students
  • There are 100s of different iBook authors
  • ePub Books
    • Manually making a folder with your files included inside it (incl. images, videos etc.)
    • Zip it, then delete the .zip, and rename it .ePub
    • There are applications that make ePubs
    • Check out one ePub resource website here

When making a multimedia digital resource, understand that there is no perfect format for the best digital resource.

Don’t make it about the format, make it about the content that goes into the format!
